Arellano, President of the chapter let them know what the chapter expect from the relationship among CONALEP and ASHRAE and some ways for improving it. Some background of the working aspects with other deans was given in order to maintain continuity over the work and achievements of the past. Donald Hay (Treasurer and Governor) talked about specific actions that reveal the essence of the relationship. Juan Aguilar, Student Activities Chair, addressed an issue that was already explained to the former dean of CONALEP about the new schemes for offering scholarships and what our expectations are about students that receive one of these grants. The idea is to involve school authorities, teachers and students more and more. We believe that it was very important to have CONALEP authorities in our meeting, because that express by itself that they are committed to hold ASHRAE ideals within their activities. They expressed that they recognize the importance of the ASHRAE support to students through scholarships, equipment donations and very especially time dedicated to visits, courses and talks. We offer them to send (actually it was already sent at this moment) a guide of the scholarships policy that is currently under consideration by the chapter board. Talk given by Esthela Tijerina at the Facultad de Arquitectura de la UANL. The subject was Sustainable Construction before approximately 100 students and professors. One important issue is that we had the presence of the Dean of  that school and the person in charge of the student affairs (Arq. Vázquez). CHAPTER ACTIVITY WITH STUDENT BRANCH INCLUDING MEETINGS, TECHNICAL PROGRAMS AND TECHNICAL TOURS
Meeting with the Board of ITESM and UANL Branches
Right after the Technical Session that is described below in the student night, we had a meeting..

Attendees:

Cecilia Garay (Incoming President ITESM Student Branch)
Cyndy Iñiguez (President Elect UANL Student Branch)
Enrique Flores (Secretary UANL Student Branch)
Alejandro Esquivel (Treasurer UANL Student Branch)
Ricardo I. Arellano (President Monterrey Chapter)
Juan Aguilar (Student Activities Chairman)

The idea was to discuss about the date for having the new ITESM Student Board. It is very important to be aware that these students are supported by its school, and that in order to have the its full support, they observe rules and procedures that are given for all the associations that exist at ITESM. Cecilia and Ricardo exposed how the system is and talked about their experiences for having an strong student branch. Definitely, the incoming board is already working, and we would have the formal ceremony shortly.
Other point that was discussed is what both branches are doing regarding the ASHRAE 2005 Student Design Project Competition. We were discussing different schemes, but at the end the students will decide by themselves which is the best way for achieving their goals supported by their Faculty Advisors within each student branch.
We spoke a little, about inviting other students from institutions, other than those that have a branch already. The agreement points were that a date for the changing of student board at ITESM is imminent, that the incoming student board is working on following the school procedures in order to keep the branch strong, that both branches will discuss and propose, separately  within their own branch which would be the strategy for participating in project proposals and competitions (see picture).

October 14th
STUDENT NIGHT AT CHAPTER MEETING
We had our Technical Session entitled "Heating: Engineering Basic Concepts and Equipment" given by Renzor Ray. This session was also declared as "Student Night". All the no member students that attended the meeting and joined ASHRAE at the site paid the student member fee and got a pass for the upcoming November Technical Session. An especial invitation was addressed to the student boards and faculty advisors to be there for endorsing student activities. Invitation to students was not limited to the schools with a student branch. The Student Activities Chairman gave a short talk inviting the student to join ASHRAE and showed them what has been achieved in this few months. Part of the message was oriented to the role that the professional members have in showing the true value that being an ASHRAE member involves. 18 Students attended the session, 10 were members already and 1 joined at the site. We had a serious conversation with Mr. Tirado, whom has good contacts at Universidad de Monterrey (UDEM) and would try to persude these person that in other times have exposed their intention for having a student branch (2 students of UDEM attended the session)..
Members of ITESM and UANL Student Branch were there. Right after the technical session, these members, the Student Activities Chairman and the President of the Chapter stayed there for a small meeting (at least that was the idea, but we stayed longer, about an hour after everybody left) regarding the new board at ITESM and the ASHRAE 2005 Student Design Project Competition. The chairman proposed several way of working, although both, the Student Activities Chairman and the President of the chapter encouraged the student to make their own decisions. There is no doubt, this session and meeting were highly productive (see pictures)
